Methane Means Victory

Poster No. 96. Issued by the Office of Civic Digestion, circa 1944, during the victory-garden season and posted in allotment sheds, seed shops, and church halls, encouraging households to raise a backyard digester alongside the vegetable plot. The Office distributed it with a companion-planting leaflet; the digester in the illustration is sited directly upwind of the beans, a placement the leaflet's own guidance reversed.
