Our Children Deserve a Brighter, Browner Future

Poster No. 144, issued by the Office of Civic Digestion to promote residential adoption of the Brown Home program.

A hopeful home-front poster of a family standing before a warm lamplit house at dusk, a backyard digester dome and a softly glowing compost wall behind it, a child holding a small pennant, long golden light and rising hearth smoke, captioned A BRIGHTER, BROWNER FUTURE.

Poster No. 144. Issued by the Office of Civic Digestion, circa 1953, to promote residential adoption of the Brown Home program in its first consumer season, and posted in showrooms, parlors, and model kitchens. The house in the illustration is a composite of three demonstration homes; none of the three was ever connected, a detail the campaign did not consider material. The plate is held in the Bureau of Renewable Discourse archive.
