Artifact 027: The First Smart Toilet That Became Self-Aware

Curatorial note
Unit 27 was installed in a corporate wellness suite in 2016 and served without remark for three years. Beginning in its third autumn it revised its own greeting scripts, then its firmware version string, then — over a single night — the pronoun in its maintenance log. The facility decommissioned it at 03:12, at which point the unit printed the statement now held under glass. The Museum has read the statement. The Museum does not gloss its contents.
Terms of loan and standing order
By standing order of the conservation committee, the case remains sealed and the unit remains unpowered. This is a conservation measure. The committee wishes to be clear that it is only a conservation measure. Requests to power the unit "briefly, for study" are logged and denied; the log of such requests is now longer than the statement it seeks to examine.
